21 February 2019 International Mother Language Day – 21 February 2019 is International Mother Language Day. It is celebrated on 21st February every year worldwide.

Behind this celebration there is a history.In 1947, India divided into 2 parts-India and East Bengal, later named as East Pakistan. But there was so many differences between the economy,culture and language between them. Post independence,Urdu was declared as National language by Pakistan government.But East Bengal wanted Bangla,their mother language to be their National language. On February 21,1952 some students from University Dhaka did protest against this decision. In 1956, Bangla was declared as National language of East Bengal. On 17th November,1999 UNESCO declared 21st February as International Mother Language Day to give an honor on Movement of Bangladesh. Since then it is being celebrated every year on the same date.The theme of this year”s International Mother language day celebration is-A day to celebrate multilingualism around the world.The celebration is actually make a connection between all the mother languages in the world.
so, in this day be proud of your own mother tongue and celebrate the day to make your mother language more special and unique and respect your mother tongue for them who fought and sacrifice their life for their mother language.
As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s Digital India initiative, digitized content will be made available in the country’s 22 scheduled languages and extended to India’s other 234 recognized languages. Digitization began in June 2016 through the Bharatavani Project at the Central Institute of Indian Languages in Mysore, and by February 2017 content in 60 Indian languages had been made available free of charge.
