Dark Horse Comics Editor Scott Allie Accused Of Abusing Co-Worker Shawna Gore – Former Dark Horse Comics editor-in-chief Scott Allie has been accused of sexual abuse by co-worker Shawna Gore.
Dark Horse Comics Editor Scott Allie Accused Of Abusing Co-Worker Shawna Gore:
Scott Allie faces new allegations of sexual abuse, which has led Hellboy creator Mike Mignola to cut ties with him.
Shawna Gore, who worked at the company from 1997 to 2011, took to Twitter on Wednesday (June 24) to describe the abuse she faced, which took place over the course of 14 years.
Gore described the abused she suffered from Scott Allie, including one incident in 1999 where he had allegedly forced his hand down her pants during a company trip.
According to Shawna Gore, he continued this kind of behavior for years, even though she refuted his advances.
Shawna Gore tweeted, “I have made the decision to come forward with my own experience of abuse in the comics industry. I am not the one at fault and the shame I have felt is not mine to carry. I was assaulted, harassed, and retaliated against by Scott Allie during our tenure at Dark Horse.”
The post begins with, “Scott Allie sexually harassed me, sexually assaulted me, and retaliated against me, causing a negative impact on my career. All of these things happened over the course of 14 years. This is a pattern of chronic, escalating and unchecked abuse that was not related to his alcohol use. This was and is illegal behaviour that he needs to be held accountable for.”
Shawna Gore went on to describe an incident that happened in 1999 where the accused allegedly “slid his left hand” down her pants in the backseat of a minivan filled with their colleagues as they drove for a company dinner. She asserts that he was not drunk during this time, nor was he drunk on a number of other occasions when he “groped and harassed her during her time at Dark Horse Comics”.
Scott Allie Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Co-Worker Shawna Gore, Company Cuts Ties With Him:
“Scott slid his hand into my waistband and down to my underwear. For the next 10-15 minutes, I had to physically wrestle against Scott to prevent him from forcibly penetrating me with his fingers,” Shawna Gore wrote.
Gore says that he kept whispering “Relax, relax” to her. She begged him to stop, but he carried on laughing and joking with other people, and for the “entire length of the car ride, his left hand pinched whatever flesh he could reach”. When they arrived at the restaurant, he laughed it off, looked at her and said “What?” as if it was some prank he had pulled. She mentions that Scott had been pressuring her to let their work-based friendship take a sexual turn and she had refused.
Eventually, Scott Allie turned to “an occult-based spiritual consultant who apparently helped him with a magic spell to release him from these feelings”. He began to treat her differently at work, leading the books she had been working on to be reassigned to other editors. “Eventually, Scott told me my attitude and approach to work made it impossible for him to mentor me anymore,” Gore wrote.
Shawna Gore also discussed that she was not the only victim of Allie’s abuse. In 2015, Allie, after getting drunk, allegedly assaulted a writer at a party.
“I am speaking up about this now because there is an endless stream of stories about this kind of predatory behavior and abuse in the comics industry. After Scott drunkenly assaulted a friend of mine during a industry mixer at San Diego Comic-con in 2015, he entered rehab and admitted to engaging in abusive behaviors while he was drinking. Not once has he addressed his other predatory behaviors. Not once has he acknowledged the countless horrible things he has done to me and other people he worked with while he was perfectly sober,” she wrote.
Gore concluded her long message saying, “As someone who suffered physical humiliation at his hands more times than I can count, and whose career was impacted in numerous ways by his turbulent feelings for me — none of which involved his drinking problems — I am speaking up now to say that Scott has not changed, because he has not yet addressed the things he has done that were NOT related to drinking. He has done no work. He has paid no dues. And his actions over the long span of his career have deeply and gravely impacted the work of industry professionals who deserved better and deserve to be believed.”
After Shawna Gore alleged that she was assaulted, harassed, and then professionally retaliated against when she rejected and tried to distance herself physically from Allie, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola released a statement via Twitter saying that he would no longer work with Scott Allie.
“I believe Shawna Gore,” Hellboy creator Mike Mignola announced on Twitter. “Given what I have read today, I will be discontinuing working with Scott Allie.”
The official Dark Horse Twitter account has followed up Mignola’s tweet with one of their own, saying “Dark Horse supports Mike Mignola and this decision. More to come.”
