Elizabeth Wurtzel, Prozac Nation Author, Died – Elizabeth Wurtzel, journalist and author of 1994 memoir, “Prozac Nation: Young and Depressed in America,” has died at the age of 52.

Elizabeth Wurtzel, died on January 7, 2020 at a hospital in Manhattan. She was 52.
Elizabeth Wurtzel had died from metastatic breast cancer, a disease that resulted from the BRCA genetic mutation.
Elizabeth Wurtzel, announced she had breast cancer, in February 2015.
“I now have stage-four upgrade privileges. I can go right to the front. But it’s always been like this. I am a line-cutter. Which is to say, I was precocious. I was early for history.”
Wurtzel said of her double mastectomy and reconstruction, ” You go in with breast cancer and come out with stripper b*obs,” and after her diagnosis, Elizabeth became an advocate for BRCA testing.

Born in 1967, Wurtzel grew up as an only child in New York City in a Jewish family and she wrote her first book aged six. Elizabeth Wurtzel’s parents, Lynne Winters and Donald Wurtzel, divorced when she was young.
In October 2013 at an addiction-themed reading, Elizabeth Wurtzel met photo editor and aspiring novelist James Freed Jr. Elizabeth Wurtzel and James Freed Jr. got engage in September 2014. Elizabeth Wurtzel married James Freed Jr. in May 2015. The couple separated in 2019.
At the age of 27, Elizabeth Wurtzel became famous for her 1994 memoir Prozac Nation, which won praise for opening a dialogue about clinical depression.
Elizabeth Wurtzel’s second memoir was, “More, Now, Again” (2002), about drug abuse and her second book was, the essay collection “Bitch” (1998).
