Heidi Klum Accused Of ‘Bullying’ And ‘Body-Shaming’ Plus-Size Contestant On America’s Got Talent:
“America’s Got Talent,” the reality competition show in its 15th season, remains one of the most popular series on the NBC network.
Last night, America’s Got Talent (season 15, ep 3), had their third round of auditions, and the panel of judges for the show’s 15th season – currently Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara – continue to propel many no-name acts to celebrity status.
One of the brightest personalities on the show was dancer, body positivity activist and influencer, Amanda LaCount, a 19-year-old from Colorado.
When Amanda first came on the stage, Sofia Vergara asked her name and her talent. Amanda explained that she was going to dance and that she was on the show with her mother who had supported her all her life.
She also explained that she loved dancing but was discouraged to do so because of her weight.
Amanda explained to the AGT judges that many people had told her she was “too big to dance.” Cowell replied that she should tell them to “shut up.”
She also shared that when she was younger, a dance studio director once told Amanda’s mother that her daughter’s body type “didn’t fit” his team.
Amanda LaCount said that she felt she could be herself on America’s Got Talent and the judges would appreciate her talent.
Amanda then took the stage and surprised everyone with her moves and America’s Got Talent judges Sofia, Simon and Howie all seemed very impressed but not Heidi.
‘America’s Got Talent’ Judge Heidi Klum Is Called ‘Cruel’ For Rejecting Amanda LaCount:
Fans of the young hopeful and were left upset when Heidi Klum hit the ‘X’ buzzer before Amanda LaCount could finish her performance.
Amanda LaCount ended her dance performance to “Nails Hair Hips Heels” by Todrick Hall, on the ground in a dramatic “fame” pose and the audience gave her a standing ovation that left her smiling ear to ear.
The German-born star sparked a Twitter storm after she hit the buzzer on aspiring dancer Amanda LaCount, 19, who had talked about being rejected all her life for not fitting the body ideal.
The audience speculated Heidi Klum was body shaming Amanda LaCount, who on her Instagram, has been very vocal about her journey with body love, to her 260k followers.
One Twitter user wrote: “Heidi Klum body-shaming that girl. That’s exactly what that was!’ While another tweeted:@heidiklum #AGT What you did to that dancer that you said no to was a form of bullying!! Most of the acts on the show are not ‘million dollar acts’! She needed to be validated by all of you for her courage and work.” someone else tweeted.”
And one viewer tweeted, “I thought it was so rude of Heidi Klum to give the dancer an X on America’s Got Talent… she’s just another bully on the playground.”
“Wow. Fat shaming a young girl on #agt. You are old enough to know better! Good for Simon who saw the dancer’s spirit when all you saw was her weight.”
Another wrote, “Heidi has ignored some horrible acts, but she chose this one to respond to. A young lady who has already been rejected based on her looks. She could have delivered her opinion without the buzzer.”
