The 31-year-old former Dancing with the Stars pro/judge, Julianne Hough and the 36-year-old hockey player, Brooks Laich, announced they’re separating in a joint statement released on Friday.

“We have lovingly and carefully taken the time we have needed to arrive at our decision to separate,” the pair told People. “We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place. We kindly request your compassion and respect for our privacy moving forward.”

The separation comes ahead of their three-year wedding anniversary this July. But for many pop culture fans, they couldn’t help but notice some signs that perhaps these two wouldn’t live happily ever after and the pair were having issues and were fighting to make their marriage to work.

The split news comes as Julianne Hough And Brooks Laich have been social distancing separately during the coronavirus outbreak.

The former “America’s Got Talent” judge is living in her Los Angeles home while Laich is at his place in Idaho.

Last month, Julianne Hough opened up Oprah Magazine about quarantining alone after she had recently wrapped up touring with Oprah Winfrey.

“So to be able to be home, and stop and pause, and look inward and connect back to myself has been glorious. I’ve been on my own. My husband is in Idaho doing lots of yard work … and so we’re kind of doing our separate things right now. But it’s really been a magical time.”

During an previous episode of his “How Men Think with Brooks Laich & Gavin DeGraw” podcast, Laich shared that “a big part of my journey in 2020 is exploring my sexuality.”

“And by that I don’t mean if I’m gay or straight,” Brooks Laich added. “I mean, like, in my s*xual relationship. What is my s*xuality? What am I craving, what are my desires and what are my wife’s? And how could we have this language to feed each other and get everything we want and be sexually expressed to the nth degree in everything.”

The 36-year-old NHL alum shared an Instagram post on Jan. 7 and said he was looking forward to a “new chapter” in life.

“I feel like a lot of my life has been ‘bound’ to certain identities that have come through the sport I spent my life playing. Canadian, male, hockey player, disciplined, competitive, etc… and though I am all of those things, they do not define me, and I am not bound by them,” Laich wrote. “In 2020, I look forward to releasing old identities, and stepping into a new chapter in my life.”

“I feel a new stage of life calling me, and though I don’t exactly know what it is yet, it feels right, and exciting!” he continued. ” … So in 2020, I am ‘boundless’ and on a new journey.”

Julianne Hough commented on the post, writing, “so beautiful ♥️.”

Laich and Hough announced their engagement in August 2015 following a year and a half of dating. They tied the knot in July 2017 in an outdoor ceremony outside of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Though the former Dancing with the Stars pro/judge, 31, and the hockey player, 36, never had kids, the former pair never intended to conceive after she froze her eggs to possibly undergo In vitro fertilization.
