The pop superstar Katy Perry, 35, who is currently preparing for the release of her new album and getting ready to welcome her first baby with fiancé Orlando Bloom, has revealed that she had suicidal thoughts in 2017, in a candid new interview about her mental health.
Katy Perry said that she hit rock bottom in both her personal and professional life in 2017, during an interview on the radio station SiriusXM CBC.
Katy Perry told Sirius Xfm: “My career was on this trajectory when it was going up, up and up and then I had the smallest shift, not that huge from an outside perspective. But for me it was seismic.”
“I had given so much out, and it literally broke me in half. I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby daddy-to-be.”
The Firework singer continued, saying that she was excited about ‘flying high’ off her fifth studio album, Witness, but that the validation didn’t help her emotionally. “I just crashed,” she said.

Katy Perry then revealed her suicidal thoughts at the time: “Gratitude is probably the thing that saved my life because if I did not find that I would have wallowed in my own sadness and probably just jumped.
“But I found the ways to be grateful. If it gets really, really hard I walk around and say, ‘I am grateful, I am grateful!’ even though I am in a sh***y mood.”

The ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer, who is expecting her first child with Bloom this summer, said that she is a better place to deal with her mental health issues. After navigating depression and anxiety for years, she said, has a different outlook on life.
“Hope has always been an option for me … because of my relationship with God and something bigger than me. If I’m the only one controlling my destiny of course it’s going to be, like, I am going to drive it into the ground,” Katy Perry said.
“My hope is that something bigger than me created me for a purpose and created me for a reason, and that I’m not disposable, and that, you know, every person that’s been created has a purpose.”
Orlando Bloom andKaty Perry first began dating in 2016 and went public with their romance at the Cannes Film Festival. After an initial 10-month relationship, Perry and Bloom parted ways in February 2017. They reunited just over a year later, in April 2018.
The Lord of The Rings star proposed to the Californian singer on Valentine’s Day in 2019 with a flower-shaped ring and Perry announced her pregnancy in the video for her single, Daisies, in May this year.
