President Donald Trump Tweets About Rep. Elijah Cummings – In a series of tweets on Saturday morning, President Trump attacked Rep. Elijah Cummings “worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States. No human being would want to live there”, and assailed an American city, Baltimore.
President Donald Trump Tweets About Rep. Elijah Cummings:
President Donald Trump Tweeted, “Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA……”
“…As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place” Trump wrote.
“Why is so much money sent to the Elijah Cummings district when it is considered the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States. No human being would want to live there. Where is all this money going? How much is stolen? Investigate this corrupt mess immediately!” Trump blasted.
Rep. Elijah Cummings’ Response To Trump:
Rep. Elijah Cummings responded later Saturday morning on Twitter, writing, “Mr. President, I go home to my district daily. Each morning, I wake up, and I go and fight for my neighbors. It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents.”
He also wrote, “Mr. President, we can address this together. Two years ago, I went to the White House to ask you to endorse my bill to let the government negotiate directly for lower drug prices.”
“My tweets are all I have to say. I will not be distracted from doing everything I can to uplift the lives of the people in Baltimore, the nation, and the world. That is and will be my sole mission until the day I die,” Cummings said.
The president’s tweets were rebuked by Baltimore Mayor Jack Young, who released a statement calling the disparagement of the city and Cummings “completely unacceptable.”
Mayor Bernard C. Jack Young’s Statement:
“The president says about Congressman Cummings’ district that no human would want to live there. You know who did, Mr. President? I did,” Blackwell said, choking up with emotion. “There are challenges, no doubt. But people are proud of their community.”
“I don’t want to sound self-righteous, but people get up and go to work there, they care for their families there, they love their children who pledge allegiance to the flag just like people who live in districts of congressmen who support you, sir. They are Americans too,” Blackwell said.
In a statement, Baltimore Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young said, “It’s completely unacceptable for the political leader of our country to denigrate a vibrant American City like Baltimore, and to viciously attack U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings a patriot and a hero. Mr. Trump’s rhetoric is hurtful and dangerous to the people he’s sworn to represent. As the Mayor of Baltimore, I won’t stand for anyone, not even the alleged Leader of the Free World, attacking our great City or our representative to Congress. Mr. Trump, you are a disappointment to the people of Baltimore, our country, and to the world.”
