Last December, Greece’s President Prokopis Pavlopoulos signed an honorary naturalization order allowing the actor to claim Greek citizenship, for thier role in bringing attention to a devastating wildfire near Athens in July 2018.
The wildfire ripped through the seaside village of Mati, killing more than 100 people.

The couple owns a home on Greek island Antiparos, where they purchased a plot of land to build their own house in 2004.
And in 2018, they bought a second home in the Skala area of the Greek island of Patmos.
Their stunning stone villa was built in the Dodecanese style of architecture, according to Greek Reporter. It’s reported Tom and Rita were both “enchanted” by the terrace overlooking the sea.
There is a nearby heliport by the couple’s lavish home, as the only way in and out of the island is via helicopter, according to the outlet.
A two-time Academy Award winner, Tom Hanks, 64, expressed his admiration for Greece when appearing at the Golden Globes earlier this year.
“I’ve been Hellenic now for the better part of 32 years,” Hanks said as he picked up the Cecil B DeMille lifetime-achievement award.
“Greece is a haven… I’ve been around the world, I’ve been to the most beautiful places in the world, none of them tops Greece. The land, the sky, the water, it’s good for the soul, it’s a healing place.”
Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson hit headlines in March this year after contracting the coronavirus.
Hanks had gone to Australia to begin production on the new Baz Luhrmann film about Elvis Presley, with the Forrest Gump star set to play Presley’s manager Colonel Tom Parker.
However, both Hanks and Wilson tested positive and were hospitalised, which was followed by a period of isolation before they returned to their home in Los Angeles.
The couple have since donated blood for a research program into treatment of the disease.
