What is Jig | Definition of Jigs:
A Jig is a special type of Fixture [ A Fixture is a device used to securely hold and accurately locate a part with the machine tool table, during the machining operation ], which in addition to provide all the functions as Fixture and also guides the cutting tool during machining.
Jigs are used in Drilling, Reaming, Boring, Tapping e.t.c.
Advantage of Jig:
Jigs minimize tool breakage – It support the tool during the operation.
Jigs decreases human error – Loading of the part into the Jig in only one way against the locators.
Since the skill is built in the Jig, less-skilled labour is required.
The overall production time is reduced as the setup time for the part and the tool is decreased to the minimum by the use of Jig bushes the location and clamps.
